Men’s Boat Shoes – Popular Fashionable Footwear for All Occasions

Men’s boat shoes also known as deck shoes began their journey from being a functional shoe meant to be worn on wet ship decks, to fashionable dress shoes worn byauctions, thanks to their popularity among trendy males. The word “Boat shoes” is derived from “deck”, the technical term for the second highest deck post in the deck of a 19th century ship.

You will see deck shoes almost on any catwalk nowadays. They are designed in such a way to provide comfort and optimum grip for the wearer. The history of these shoes dates back to the pre 7th century when they were originally created for the chopra style of Chinese dancers. However, it was only in the earlier 19th century that they became a part of the worldwide fashion scene.

The basic structure of men’s boat shoes and their specific features are as follows:

o This is a non-leather material, canvas-like, that is stain resistant and hence durable. Since burnishes and water have a tendency to stick to leather, these shoes are made of cotton or synthetic materials so as to prevent these spills. The word “Boat shoes” cannot be pronounced correctly, it is written instead with theihara, which means a kind of wooden shoe.

o The upper part of a men’s deck shoe is made up of either leather or cloth, which is stitched onto the deck soles.

o The soles ofmen’s boat shoesshape resembles a “V” with the curve fitting being around the upper part of the foot.

o The toe of the shoes are pointed in most of the cases, but it is not a standard feature. In fact, it varies from one country to the other, so the toes can vary according to the culture. The situation is similar to that of a woman’s handbag. The traditional method of stitching does a great deal to give a strong grip to the shoes.

o A traditional men’s boat shoe is crafted out of two pieces of leather: one upper piece and one “lug” piece or smaller piece of leather sewn by hand. The upper piece of the shoe is shaped with the reverse of the lip; that is, it is shaped with the top part of the shoe turned upwards as against the lower part of the shoe. This enables the boat shoes to be easily put on and off. They are traditionally black, brown, or mahogany. The upper material is stitched onto the soles with the bitty part of the seam forming the heel. In women’s shoes, you will find that the upper part is stitched with a circular stitched pattern, which is known as the “V” seam.

nother style of these shoes is known as the moccasin shoes. They have an open toe that enables the wearers to easily slip the shoe on and off. These shoes are traditionally made from leather; they are treated with oil to enable them to shrink. Men’s shoes are usually made from either leather or denim, but when the latter is used to design the shoes, a tremendous variety of materials can be used.

The traditional method of styling men’s shoes to make them boat shoes is to use a strong nail builder’s pattern, known as “cat’s-toes”. The pattern is stamped on to the leather, usually at the area the heels are meant to be secured. Because a cat’s-toes pattern is so strong, shoes are made in pieces, each under the impression that there will be no chipping off from the stitch. To attach the heels, a steel staple is sewn into the seam. Because the pattern cannot be changed, it is typical to use a bonding glue to make a pair of boat shoes.

The traditional method of styling men’s shoes to make them deck shoes is to whip the suede, leather, or fabric, into shape inch by inch while gradually working the area securing the heels, in the direction of the heels, to create a smooth line.
